Picnicking with the old truck
One of our favorite things to do was to go on a picnic. this is one of those occasions. As I recall, Clifford probably drove his car, and i drove his truck, pictured in part here, which was a 1941 Chevrolet with a lot of miles on it.
My mother would cook up a turkey, with oyster and chestnut dressing, and let it simmer overnight. I am guessing that that is what we are eating here. Best is can tell from the pictures is that I am standing on the left, then Nancy, Charles, my mother, Mary, and probably Mike reaching up at the pan, and jimmy in the foreground.
It may have been an old truck, and it may have been a scruffy area to picnic--but--we had fun. and that's what it's all about.

J. G. Bradley campground
here is a view of the cabooses which were purchased for use in the campground. this is at Dundon, and the cabooses will eventually be turned into campers to rent out by the night.
for those who remember Buffalo Creek being black with coal, just look at the beautiful water in it now. it was a little muddy on this day, but it is usually crystal clear now, almost pure enough to dring, and has lots of fish.
Makes you want to get out the old fishing pole, doesn't it.

Robert Murphy
I took this picture of Robert about a year before he passed away.
Robert was a very unique individual, and he possessed a most desirable quality--he made people laugh. he made them feel at ease, and when he came into a room, you always knew he was there, because everything seemed a little brighter. We will always miss Robert, but will always be grateful that he was with us.
Rachel in the Christmas Parade
This is Rachel in the Christmas parade, 2006. this picture does not show it so much, but she is a dead ringer for Nancy at tht age. I will get a current picture to post and the similarity will be obvious. The car is my 1959 Cadillac which used to be the center of attention in the parade, but with Rachel, she became the big attraction.
Mary, Dorothy, and Agnes
On a clear day, under a bright blue fall sky, I can sit up on that hill back of where the house used to be, and almost swear that I can smell the aroma of Sunday fried chicken and hot rolls, wafting through the air.
The simplest pleasures often become the most memorable, and the most durable stones from which our heritage is constructed.
some of my favorite people
The memories of the past are some of the most precious thinks we have. If we do not continue to refresh our memories with fresh looks at our memorabilia, we aare depriving ourselves of some of our most valuable assets--the remembrances that form the fiber of our todays.
We know that our bodies can not return to the past, but that corner of our mind to which we retire to find respite, can easily be dtransported back to those magical times.
This picture of Nancy, Rita, Aunt Mary, and Jimmy, time travels us back to one of those days.

IN POPPY'S YARD AT SWANDALE
Hey, everybody, here is a good site to look at. it takes you through alot of pictorial history of Swandale, W.VA. it will also give you a link to the B,C G site.
Also, here is a picture of a bunch of us in Poppy's yard at swandale. Standing is me, Jerry Hamrick, and Mike Hamrick. Sitting is Freda (Mullins) Murphy, my brother Charles, and, I believe, the little ones are Don, Gary, and possibly Linda.
(Rita just e-mailed me, and pointed out that the little one on Freda's lap is not Linda, but my sister Nancy. Thanks, Rita)POPPY AND ME

A long time ago
This certainly was a long tim ago.
Back when flattops were still in style, and narrow ties were part of the uniform. This is me (Jerrold) with Jerry and John. According to the date on the side of the picture, it was taken in Sept, 1965. I was working for Ravens Metal at the time, and had just bought a new 65 Ford earlier in the year.

charles murphy
My brother, Charles Luther Murphy, in a school picture. I am not sure exactly when this was taken, but it probably when he was about twelve years old. no doubt it was at a time when Vitalis was a big issue with the hair-combing crowd.
Charles was named for both his grandfathers, Luther Westfall, and Charles Curtis Murphy. Unfortunately, he inherited the bad luck of bothe sides.
